Tom Crewe’s debut novel, The New Life, is a magnificent first novel of forbidden love and new ways of living set in 1890’s London. It has been praised for its tenderness, and forensic insight into love.
The story revolves around John and Henry, whose shared vision for the future unites them to write a revolutionary book in defiance of convention and the law. Their daring book threatens to throw John and Henry and all those around them into danger. How far should they go to win personal freedoms?
