About The Event

Want to make a point? Play with words? Create a memorable line?

Graffiti… protest placards… news headlines… They catch our eye, make us laugh, and

stick in our memories. Funny, shocking and thought-provoking phrases are all

around us, but how to nail that perfect word combo?

First, we’ll look at examples of text art and explore the ideas and topics that matter to

us.

Next, using a combination of exercises and editing techniques we’ll craft a single,

resonant, line or phrase.

Finally, using type-face and pictures from magazines and newspapers, we’ll create

eye catching collages to make our words stand out.

If you’ve been thinking about writing but don’t know where or how to start, this is a

great, playful way to begin and if you struggle with editing this will give you loads of

angst-free tips.

All welcome – no writing experience necessary

We are able to offer one free place on each of our workshops for a writer who is on a low income/unemployed and struggling with the cost of living. Please apply via email to info@hastingsbookfest.org and confirm your reasons for applying and which workshop you'd like to attend. Places will be offered on a first come first served basis.
