About The Event

Hastings is a town rich with poets of all shapes and sizes, and we are pleased to be putting on our first Open Mic Lottery night hosted by the hilarious poet Henry Normal.

Everyone who signs up for a poets' slot is invited into Henry’s hat. The performance order will be random as each poet will be picked from Henry’s hat and given the stage for five minutes! Everyone is equal and everyone (who signs up) will have a chance to win.

Henry said ‘Anything could happen!’

We have received so many requests from local poetry groups to perform that we wanted to give you all a chance to sign up in advance (ADVANCE SIGN UP NOW FULL). A small number of openings will be left available for the night itself. It will be on a first come first served basis both online and on the night. Once the slots are gone, they’re gone! We will also operate a reserves list on the night, so please book an audience ticket and join the waiting list on the night itself.

Every audience member will be given a chance to vote for their favourite poet of the night once all have performed and the two with the most votes will receive a cash prize of £50 each. Bring all your friends to vote for YOU!

In addition, two poets, chosen by Henry Normal, will be given the opportunity to open for Salena Godden, at her Hastings Book Festival event - Salena Godden - Electrified and Unfiltered’ taking place on Saturday 23rd September from 7.30pm at the Observer Building. As an icon of the spoken word scene this is a local opportunity not to be missed!

So sign up, and be one of the people inside Henry’s hat, impress both the audience and Henry to stand a chance of winning!
