About The Event

The Battle of Hastings, by Land and Sea 5pm to 6pm

The battle of Hastings, 1066, is the most famous battle in English history. It saw the death of a king and the birth of a new age. Yet there was far more to Harold’s defence of England than standing on a hill, for his strategy involved ambitious operations by land and sea. In this talk, Professor Licence – author of Harold, Warrior King – shines a light on how events unfolded when two brilliant commanders tried to outwit each other at every turn. What were Harold’s secret plans? What did William know that Harold did not? And what went wrong for one of England’s most experienced generals? This is 1066 brought to life by a leading expert.
